Little Owl Academy St. Patrick’s Day Preschool Ideas
I absolutely love St. Patrick’s Day for preschoolers. There’s something about those sneaky little leprechauns, rainbows, shamrocks and all things green that makes it so fun. I especially love it, because it’s a great time to review so many preschool skills, but especially colors. Today I’m sharing some fun St. Patrick’s Day preschool ideas.
We have kicked off our preschool St. Patrick’s Day theme at the Little Owl Academy house. We started it off with an easy and great art project. Before I share details, make sure to find more out about last years art project here:
Easy Rainbow Art Project for Preschoolers
We kicked off our St. Patrick’s Day preschool theme with some color sorting. I grabbed some fruit loops, a bunch of bowls, and started helping my son sort the colors. We talked about each color of the rainbow and what order the colors go in.
Then, we grabbed a pipe cleaner, tied a small knot in the end, and began stringing on the fruit loops. With older preschoolers you could practice putting the fruit loops on in rainbow order- red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. For my son, he has a mind of his own and was determined to put them on his own way…and guess what, that’s okay!
Once all the fruit loops reach almost the other end, tie another small not, fold in to the shape of a rainbow, and ta da! It’s done! (See the picture at the top of this post for the final product.)
St. Patrick’s Day Preschool Fine Motor Skills
After stretching out and working our fingers doing the rainbow art project, we started working on some other fine motor skills. This rainbow page was the perfect combination of fun and fine motor practice. We cut out each of the pots of gold and glued them under the rainbow. For added fun, my son added all sorts of stickers and designs afterwards.

More St. Patric’s Day Preschool Ideas and Fun
I really think rainbow was our theme of the day. We had so much fun just focusing on the rainbow aspect of St. Patrick’s Day. We focused on learning to read color words by painting with some fun marker paintbrushes. Have you ever seen these? I bought these at Target and they’ve been a huge hit. They are the fun of painting but it helps keep my sanity by not creating a mess!
