Summer may be upon us, but before we know it, we will be heading back to preschool. I know for me, I always start thinking about back to school time as the days get hotter each summer. There is nothing more crucial to create a good school year than by being prepared at back to school time! Today I am sharing back to school preschool ideas ages 2-5.
Back to School Preschool Age 2
Did you know that you can do more with your 2 year old preschoolers than just playing with toys? (although that is a great thing too!) 2 year olds are ready to start learning, get a feel for the ins and outs of fine motor skills and listening to a story and followings very simple directions. My toddler curriculum is perfect for ages 2-3 and helps your toddler get ready for preschool!
Today, my 2.5 year old son began my toddler curriculum. He was showing signs that he was ready. I am not worried about pencil grip or following directions perfectly. I am focusing on having him listen to a story and tell his own fun stories, and start to understand how to color- even if it means that coloring is just scribbles. It’s the very beginning stages of learning, and it’s SO fun!
Can’t you just sense his excitement in this video? He truly was more excited than I could have even of imagined, and he loved every second of our learning. Today we read the book “Harry the Dirty Dog,” about the cutest little stinker of a dog who runs away because he doesn’t want a bath. He then decides to come home because he misses his family, but they don’t recognize him because he is all dirty! He of course willingly jumps in to the bath tub and soon the family discovers it is their beloved Harry. This story is perfect for toddlers and all of these activities go along perfectly for your preschooler ages 2-3.

Back to School Preschool Ages 3-4
Do you have a child or student that is a little more ready for “real” preschool and you feel they are ready to start learning all preschool standards? My full preschool curriculum covers all of these bases!
Today, I worked with my 4 year old on this Back to School preschool theme. It is perfect for your newest preschoolers because it walks them step by step through the most basic preschool concepts. Including here where he was asked to write his name. I did not just send him to his task- he started by tracing the letters in his name, then he wrote it on his own.
This back to school preschool theme is perfect for your back to school preschool ideas ages 2-5 but is especially geared towards 3-4 year olds.

To wrap up this blog post on back to school preschool ideas ages 2-5, I wanted to share about my “the Pout Pout Fish goes to School Book Companion.” Preschoolers in the age 4-5 range should be great (or getting close to it) at listening to stories. This story is perfect for the first week of preschool. It introduces you to a cute, but a little bit nervous for school, fish. He wants to give up on school, but then realizes that if he starts at his level he can succeed!
