Pirate Toddler Curriculum
I have three boys. One is too small to play and run around with his brothers, but the big boys LOVE to play pirates. Lately, they’ve had a small black bag that they carry their treasures in. It is called their “pirate bag,” and they carry it as they get on their pirate ship (the bunk bed) and sail across the ocean. After watching this, I just knew that I had to have a pirate theme toddler curriculum because combining play with learning is essential.
What is Toddler Curriculum?
My toddler curriculum is geared towards the earliest learners. I always center my work on a well loved book. Read the book together with your child or student, and then complete the pages in the packet. My 2 year old will complete the work with a lot of assistance from me and my 4 year old is much more independent and likes to complete them on his own. Either way, this curriculum can be geared towards any early age.
What we did:
After reading the book, “Pirates Go To School,” we traced the shapes around the pirates. We then went on a pirate shape hunt, using our hands as spy glasses. Then we looked around the play room and found objects that matched the shapes on our paper.
We also matched pirates together, colored parrots the correct color, and helped the pirate get to her pirate ship by tracing the lines. To add to the fun, make a small obstacle course for your won pirates to get to their ship. It can be as simple as a line of pillows on the floor to walk along, or use painters tape on the floor to make a walk way for the pirates to balance on. Make it fun!
Free Game
We ended our pirate theme toddler curriculum day by playing a capital letter pirate matching game. You can get it for free below! I used capital letters only, as this is a beginning curriculum. I cut out the cards, shuffled them together, and had them match the letters back together. For my youngest son, he simply matched the letters. For my older son, we talked about the names of the letters and what sound they make.

No matter if you complete each page, or just play the capital matching game, playing pirates together is always fun!
