Teeth Preschool Theme
February is Children’s Dental Health Month. It’s a perfect time to teach a preschool theme at home or in your preschool classroom. We took the time to learn all things teeth, including how to care for our teeth, talking about the dentist, the tooth fairy, and other learning skills! My children were especially excited to point out that they have all of their teeth and that their baby brother only has 6 teeth. My five year old son was quite surprised to learn that his teeth will start falling out soon! Check out some of our fun teeth theme preschool ideas below:
Teeth Preschool Book Companion
To help us learn about everything teeth, we read two of my favorite books about teeth, “Brush Your Teeth Please,” and “How to Catch a Tooth Fairy.” To go along with each of these books we completed some fun activities, including shape drawing practice, counting, writing letters, tracing, cutting and more in two different teeth preschool book companions! Sensory Bin Idea
The highlight of the day, though, was our teeth preschool sensory bin. We used water beads for our sensory bin. You can find some water bead sensory bin tips and tricks here:

We tried something new this time. I found these small flat glass rocks from Michaels. They were super inexpensive. I wrote capital and lowercase letters from the whole alphabet on each one. A tip though-A regular sharpie worked, but once it got in the bin it came off. Use a sharper with a thicker end and let it dry for a good amount of time. Then, they dug through the sensory bin to find each rock, say the name of the letter, and place on the matching alphabet teeth. It was a great alphabet review and a fun teeth preschool sensory bin idea.
Other Ideas
Here’s some other fun teeth preschool ideas:
- Set up an obstacle course in your classroom or home. Use painters tape for a jagged line to follow, pillows, cones, or other fun obstacles to maneuver. Run a picture of a teeth from one end to the other like the tooth fairy having to find your teeth. Or, place pictures on one end, and run them to the other end to match them, practice saying their name, or other fun review practice.
- Practice brushing teeth: Print off a picture of a large clipart tooth. Laminate the tooth. Cover it with whipped cream. Get a toothbrush and practice cleaning it until all of the whipped cream is gone. This is a great lesson on brushing every part of your mouth!
- Invite a local dentist or dental hygienist in to your classroom. They are usually great about bringing tooth brushes, floss, or other dental needs with them to share.
All in all, it was a success teeth preschool unit and we had fun using as many of these teeth preschool ideas as possible!
