I woke up this morning to October. There is no happier month in my eyes. The world is preparing to sleep for Winter and it just feels cozy, warm, happy, exciting, and full of hope for me. Now that I have a preschooler in my home, it’s even that much more exciting. He came running out of school today saying, “Mom, we’re going to the Pumpkin Patch tomorrow! Can we buy a pumpkin?” His world is just pure joy right now. It got me thinking about Little Owl Academy’s October ideas and all I have created. You can definitely see by looking at our store that we love October. Here are a few of my favorite October preschool ideas from Little Owl Academy.
1. Colors
There’s no more fun time to learn colors than in October in preschool. With all the bright Halloween costumes, scarecrows, decorations, and more, it’s a great time to match, color, and learn all about colors. You can find this halloween color matching page, and other fun color ideas for October below:
2. Math
It doesn’t get much more fun than counting pumpkins, sorting Halloween shapes and completing patterns with bats and ghosts. October preschool ideas for Math just get more and more fun as you find manipulative to add in as well. I just found the cutest spiders to throw in to our Math lesson next week from Oriental Trading. What fun Halloween manipulative have you found? You can find this #4 page below:
3. Tracing
I don’t know about your preschoolers, but mine could trace All. Day. Long! Even more fun, they love to trace, and then cut out the lines that they traced. It’s a win win fine motor practice for me. This fun tracing page can be found below for all your October preschool ideas:
4. Shapes
I’m not a huge costume person myself. But, I love seeing others creative and fun Halloween costumes. And, you better believe I love seeing what my children want to be for Halloween. This year, my preschooler wants to be Batman, and my toddler wants to be Chase from Paw Patrol. It’s pretty obvious what they’re in to right now! So, adding shapes in to preschool October ideas is always a good ideas.
5. FREE October Preschool Ideas
One of the best things about teaching preschool and Halloween time is that there are a lot of great FREE resources out there to help supplement your instruction each day. This is a surprise FREEBIE from my store full of lots of fun October preschool ideas.
6. Pumpkin Fun Ideas
I think for me, though, my absolute favorite things about October is all of the Pumpkins. I love the silly shaped pumpkins, the perfectly round pumpkins, and the creative way that people carve their pumpkins. My boys love going on walks and seeing which house already has their pumpkins out. I can’t wait to add ours to the porch after the pumpkin patch tomorrow! If you want to talk about sequencing with your preschoolers. This fun pumpkin resource will help.
